Stoke Gifford Taekwon-do was established in November 2000 by Miss Kerry Burridge with the assistance of Mr Mike Frost who at the time was a 1st Kup (Black Stripe) in Taekwon-do. He went on to achieve his 1st Dan black belt in 2001 and was days away from his 2nd Dan in 2003 when he was tragically killed in a motorbike accident. Although this was a huge blow, his memory lives on and has unified the club and made it much stronger. The club has grown considerably over the years & now has more than 100 training members. The students range from age 4 to 70+ & is a even mixture of both male & female. Many of the students have trained hard & achieved the ultimate rank of black belt. The club has a keen competitive nature with instructor Miss Burridge achieving two world championship titles. She has trained many of the students to national & international level with lots achieving a British champion title. Previous assistant instructor Mr Brad May achieved two bronze medals at a the 2007world championship, student & Instructors Assistant Billy Smith has achieved six medals at a European Kup championship as well as three team medals at the 2010 world championships & recently achieved a European champion title & silver medallist as well as 4 further European team medals. Previous student Josh Wellman has followed in the clubs tournament success footsteps by achieving a World championship title & silver medallist as well as achieving three team medals at the 2010 world championships. The club looks on these achievements with pride & continues to teach & train all students to be the best that they can. Stoke Gifford Taekwon-do has a team of assistants and helpers, who aid Miss Burridge with the running and teaching of the club. Instructors Assistant Phoebe Grandfield, Harry Armorgie & Jess Thomas. Team leaders Ben Baker-Attwood, Ollie Robershaw, Eva Clothier, Ben Chapman, Callum Brown, Kieran McDermott & administrator Alison May are but to name a few.
